The Face Between Us

The Face Between Us explores the concept of Otherness through a series of mixed media artistic works and installations, engaging with questions of identity, borders, and relationalit

Drawing on Julia Kristeva’s notion of abjection, the exhibition examines the fragile and paradoxical boundaries between the self and the Other, the inside and the outside, the subject and the object.

At its core, these works reflect on the tension between belonging and alienation, recognition and rejection, and how they shape identity.

Central to the exhibition is an investigation of transformative materials—paint, textiles, ceramics—and their ability to transcend boundaries. Through their fluidity, blending and merging, these materials serve as metaphors for the borderless nature of human existence, simultaneously isolated yet interwoven with one another.

Each artwork and installation reflects on the gaze as a subjective lens, questioning how it shapes perception and relationship, and how this awareness can be embedded into the interpretation of the exhibition.

The gallery space comprises three interconnected works: a paint-on-glass animation film projected on water, ceramic objects, and illustrated textiles, creating a multisensory exploration of the Self and The Other, and the borders between Us.

Through the exhibition The Face Between Us, viewers are invited to confront the dynamics of our gaze and how transformative and fluid materials offer a space for deeper exploration into how our body’s borders shape our understanding and connection to the Other.
